Hi, as we say in Denmark. I am the Scandinavian branch of this very international company! I was born and raised in Denmark, completed my BA in International business and moved to New York to work in the exciting fashion eyewear industry . After many years and many eyeglass fashion trends later, I obtained the New York Real Estate Licence and worked like a mad woman with Prudential Douglas Real Estate Agency for a few years. Stress and the urge for nature and a more natural way of life, made us make a mad leap of faith, and move the family to Northern Cyprus, my husband’s birthplace. Others impulse buy, we impulse moved and I must say that everything has fallen into place ever since. A friend through school introduced me to Hayat and Steve from Donaghy and Beyler Estate Agency, and they made me an offer I couldn’t refuse! Looking back, fate brought us here, we are all healthier and happier, and the kids spend most of their time outside now, and with one more language under their belt, it is all good!!! My Name is Verda Gumush; I was born and brought up in the UK. I moved to Cyprus in 1991 and have been living in this delightful country ever since. After completing my graduate studies, I began working for an International import/export organization. It was during this time that I first had dealings with Donaghy and Beyler. After 5 years I realized that I needed a new challenge and when Hayat and Steve offered me the position of Office Manager, I couldn’t refuse. Though the company is very professional, business is conducted in a friendly atmosphere and I knew that this was the right working environment. Gilly Griffiths - Catalkoy Office Manager
Hi - I’m Gilly and here is my story: I first visited Cyprus in 1972 and stayed until 1974 when, during the Turkish intervention, the evacuation of military wives and their children forced me to leave this beautiful island. It has always been our dream to live on an island in the sun and we returned to Northern Cyprus in 2002 and eventually moved here lock stock and 2 smoking Pekingese in December 2003. I worked at KAR (Kyrenia Animal Rescue) for a few months and then secured employment at an Estate Agency as PA to the Directors for 4 years. During this time I had met Hayat and Steve on many occasions socially and they really are the life and soul of the party and great company and I consider myself very fortunate in that, during the latter part of last year, they opened their fourth office - Catalkoy Branch and offered me the role of Office Manager, which I gladly accepted.
My working background has always been “white collar”. Before I left England, I worked for 15 years at Oxford Airport as Operations Manager in the Helicopter Training and Charter Sector. The training section usually involved about 40 students of mixed nationalities on full time 10-12 month courses. The Charter section involved arranging flights for up to 300 passengers to such places as Ascot, Farnborough and Silverstone to name a few. I only commenced employment with D&B in March this year so, all in all, I really am the “new girl on the block” but I do feel very proud to be part of the Donaghy and Beyler team and look forward to contributing to their success as the best Estate Agency on the Island. Hi, my name is Erhan. I moved to Northern Cyprus with my family from Bulgaria in 1997. After completing my studies and military service I applied for a job with Donaghy and Beyler. That was five years ago and I have been here ever since. Part of my job revolves around translation and helping customers to deal with local councils, the electricity office and their builders. Hello, my name is Lindsay Hunter. I was born and lived in “not so sunny Rochdale”, not so anymore! I have lived in the TRNC for two years now and love it. My partner and I purchased land from Donaghy and Beyler in 2003 and over the next two years watched this piece of dirt grow into a lovely house. Upon leaving the Royal Marines I worked in the sales industry for a good few years. So why Northern Cyprus? Is it because on average you get 300 days of sunshine a year, the island is very welcoming or I believe this to be the best place to raise my family? It’s all of these and more.
