Budget Airline Challenges CTA

Budget airline Sun-Express has stepped in to launch a twice weekly London-Ercan service in the wake of claims that Cyprus Turkish Airlines' high flight prices are partly to blame for the TRNC tourist industry's problems.

The low cost operator, founded by Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, is running flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, starting from Saturday April 28th, with one-way tickets being advertised from 29 euros (₤20) excluding taxes and airport charges.

However, ticket costs rise as fewer seats become available on the aircraft. "It's a dynamic pricing model, so if people book early and are lucky they will get the cheapest price," said Company spokesman Ozan Ortac.

"This rises gradually as more seats are booked, so people should get in as early as possible."

Michael Buck, commercial director of SunExpress, said the company felt it was the "right time to expand our activities in the UK" with summer approaching.
