Beaches in North Cyprus

Beaches are a principal attraction in North Cyprus, and vary widely in character from the busy Northern Cyprus hotel beaches, which offer many facilities, to the secluded stretches of sand in the Karpaz, where the visitor may have an entire beach to himself. North Cyprus beaches are a national heritage. Please respect them when you use them and please take your rubbish away with you. Do not forget to use sun-screen lotion - after 20 minutes under the summer sun, you will begin to burn.

Water sports are available on some beaches in North Cyprus where professional tuition and supervision are on offer. In general, the beaches associated with Northern Cyprus hotels are kept clean and provide facilities such as toilets, sun loungers, parasols, bars and restaurants. Entrance Fees vary. The visitor is encouraged to explore for himself, but as a guide, a few beaches are listed below.

North Cyprus Kyrenia Beaches

Acapulco Beach lies about 6 miles to the east of North Cyprus Kyrenia. At the point where the coast road to the east sweeps up towards the mountains, a large sign advertising this beach will be seen. Here the road branches off to the left, passing through an army camp before leading to the entrance of this holiday complex in North Cyprus. This is a popular tourist beach, offering most facilities, but supervision of children swimming is recommended as there is an undertow. Windsurfing is available.

Vogue Beach is a couple of miles East from Acapulco. Offering all facilities in a relaxed setting.

Lara Beach may be found a couple of miles further on - a sign indicates where to turn off from the new by-pass road. Toilets, showers, and sun loungers are available, and there is also a reasonable open air Northern Cyprus restaurant.

Alagadi Beach is still further east, about 10 miles from Northern Cyprus Kyrenia. A hundred yards or so past St. Kathleen’s restaurant is a small bridge. Immediately after the bridge, a rough track bears left, leading past a farm and through the dunes to a large, sweeping double bay. There are no facilities, so bring your own refreshments, including water, and avoid leaving litter.

Escape Beach is located about 5 miles to the west of Kyrenia, past the sloping concrete monument beyond Karaoglanoglu. It is adjacent to the Altinkaya fish restaurant. The North Cyprus sandy beach is well protected and ideal for tiny tots. Toilets and showers are available, and there is a bar and restaurant.

Deniz Kizi is situated about seven miles west of Kyrenia. This sheltered bay is kept clean, and offers a variety of water sports including windsurfing, parascending, water skiing, and inflatable fun rafts for smaller children. Sunbeds are available for hire, and there are also toilet and shower facilities.

Mare Monte hotel beach lies some 10 miles west of Kyrenia, and provides all the facilities the visitor requires. An excellent location, but the entrance fee is higher than elsewhere.
The Dome Hotel in Kyrenia has a large seawater swimming pool, ideal for those who like sea-water without the sand. Most facilities available.

Northern Cyprus Famagusta Beaches

North Cyprus Famagusta has long been famous for its miles of sandy beaches. Some beaches are owned by North Cyprus hotels and have an entrance fee. There are various beaches in North Cyprus with beach bars, sunshades and sun loungers. The beaches are safe with some great spots for swimming and snorkelling.

Karpaz Beaches

The beautiful Northern Cyprus Karpaz has miles and miles of empty sandy beaches.

Malibu Beach

Malibu Beach provides crystal clear water for good swimming in Northern Cyprus. There is a snack bar and sun shades on the beach.

Golden Sands

There is a stretch of coast known as the Golden Sands in North Cyprus which is 5 miles of un-spoilt beaches and scenery. The Turtles use this beach in the summer for nesting.

There are signposts down to many beaches in TRNC and there are cafes and picnic areas offering refreshments.
