Turtles in North Cyprus

Since 1992, the Marine Turtle Research group, in union with the Department for Environmental Protection and the Society for the Protection of Turtles in Northern Cyprus, have carried out annual surveys recording the turtle’s activity during the summer months. Just before sunset you can join the students at their base,” The Goat Shed" at Alagadi (just past St. Kathleen’s Restaurant) to share this unique event. Information will be supplied about the turtles and the projects in hand. You will then be taken to one of the two Alagadi bays to witness the amazing one hundred million year old wonder as the shimmering mother of pearl eggs are dropped into the nest cavity. On a lucky night you will be able to experience this unique happening several times before you return to your hotel. The best times to observe the nesting is at the end of June and beginning of July. If you wish to observe, the hatching season is best during end of August and beginning of September.
